June 14, Flag Day, commemorates the adoption in 1777 of the flag of the U.S.Nicknamed Stars and Stripes , Old Glory or Star Spangled Banner, the U.S. flag has 13 equal horizontal stripes of red alternating with white representing the first 13 states of the Union, and a blue rectangle with 50 stars representing the present 50 states.
